Committee on Conformity Assessment
CASCO is the ISO committee responsible for conformity assessment. It develops policy and publishes standards related to conformity assessment, but it does not perform conformity assessment activities. ISO 19011:2018 Guidelines for auditing management systems* covers the principles of auditing, managing an audit program and conducting management system audits, as well as guidance on the evaluation of competence of individuals involved in the audit process.
Some management systems attract additional requirements. For example, ISO/IEC TS 17021-5:2014 Conformity assessment — Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems — Part 5: Competence requirements for auditing and certification of asset management systems specifies competence requirements for those involved in the audit and certification of an Asset Management System. In other words, it is not enough to be competent in auditing management systems. Anyone auditing a management system in conformity with ISO 55001 would have to demonstrate competence in asset management.
